James has extensive experience in the NSW Government defined benefit (SSS, SASS and Police Scheme) and accumulation schemes (Aware Super) as well as Federal Government funds such as PSS and CSS. He has managed funds in both superannuation and pension phases, as well as a broad range of managed investments. His areas of specialisation include retirement planning, income streams, taxation, Centrelink and aged care.
Since co-founding When Financial Solutions in 2019, James has proudly operated as a self employed adviser, choosing independence so he can provide advice that is genuinely in his clients’ best interests – free from product influence and fully aligned with what they value. He delivers tailored strategies that simplify complexity and empower clients to live comfortably, both now and into the future. His holistic approach centres on understanding each client’s circumstances and aspirations, ensuring their finances are well-structured and their investments reflect what matters most to them.
James grew up on a farm near Warialda and now lives on small acreage in Tamworth with his wife Emma and their three children—Archie, Darcy, and Harriet. He’s a familiar face at local sporting events, both as a participant and a proud supporter of his children’s cricket, rugby, and horse pursuits. His commitment to community runs deep, and he believes that strong financial foundations are key to building resilient families and thriving regional communities.
